If You Don’t Brand Your Business Now, You’ll Hate Yourself Later

Sometimes following trends and leaders does not always work. Let me explain. Here is an ugly example.
Lark Miller Paint by number fail
This picture looks like it was painted by a 12 year old.

It's a paint by number so I wasn't expecting anything amazing. I just hoped it would look good somewhere in the house except for the garage.

This is another example about the importance of branding yourself and your business.

You've heard that following leaders is inspirational, motivational and will help you get to where you want to go. This is very accurate. Following instructions and mentors and implementing what they teach is a great start. Do it as much and as often as you can. Without this type of network you will feel lost, unmotivated and probably quit.

Although networks are great, copying your leaders every action will not always get you where you hope to be. There will be times where eventually you will end up having to think for yourself and you won’t be able to find answers to all of your questions at the snap of your fingers. Following others is only a start. You must stay true to yourself, your wants and desires and stay focused on your goals.

There will never be another Donald Trump or Jim Rohn so leave a piece of yourself in all the work that you do or else you will just be another marketer or a wannabe with nothing special about you.

Let's use this paint by number as an example. I followed the numbers and paint colours perfectly and expected it to look like the picture on the cover. What I ended up with was pretty much awful. The colours didn’t match the ones on the cover, the depth and perception were off, the moose looks like a rock and the water looks like the sky. If pretty much looks like forest vomit.

This is because I was painting without thinking. I paint to relax and I thought I would end up with what was on the cover of the box so I wasn't really too concerned with the outcome.

Well like life, the expected outcome doesn’t always happen. I was too busy following too carefully the lines and colour combinations that I didn't even take the time to look at the full effects of what I was doing. I was doing what was recommended. This gave me an average product in the end. Nothing average is good enough for me.

....which is why I'm going to come back to this painting later and do things with my personality my way.

This painting is weak because I didn’t try. I expected great results without really trying or thinking about it. There was hardly any effort in the work I put in. I didn’t brand the picture or even try to make it unique.

Think of the people you look up to. Are you copying exactly what they are doing? Try to take a step back and make sure you are figuring things out on your own and you would be okay if that person stopped training you. Would you be able to stand on your own 2 feet?

Are you able to take advice, implement it and be original about it? This is where the gold mine is. You will generate much better sales if there is something unique about you or your business. You will be remembered and stand out amongst your competition. When the competition copies, you should be copying plus making it better with your personality, unique skills and brand.

You're not going to win the race if you do exactly what someone else is doing. Never forget to brand your business. Take advice from someone you trust, put it in a blender with your personality then implement it.

How to Overcome Your Fear of Failure: an Extreme Example

I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with the story about the mountain climber Aron Ralston who got himself stuck between a rock and a hard place. The book came out a few years ago and the movie 127 Hours recently went into theaters. I watched it the other day and couldn't help but relate it to the importance of successes and failure in internet marketing. Bare with me, this example is a little extreme but will teach you how to overcome your fear of failure.

Whether you’re walking your dog in the park, mountain climbing or investing into a new business, they can all be considered risky. It is rare that something bad will happen but you can never be 100% sure that something bad won’t happen.  All we can do is hope for the best, have some hope and prepare for the worst.

Even if you are neurotic and you think you have a 5 year daily schedule for every possible failure in the book. There are always circumstances beyond our control that we will not be prepared for. It is the leaders with hope and motivation that find the answers, overcome failure and get back up on their feet the quickest.

Aron Ralston had enough water and food for a few days even though he planned on only being gone for a few hours. After traveling miles through the Utah canyons he unfortunately found himself fallen into a crevice with a boulder trapping his arm. There was no way to move the boulder, he was completely alone and it soon became a life or death situation.

He spent 5 full days overcoming elements, hunger, thirst, mental breakdowns and physical pain. After examining each supply he had in his climbing bag he attempted each one together and separate to help free his arm. He tried things that seemed impossible just to eliminate the 1% chance that it might work. When most people would quit, he never gave up. From chiselling a giant boulder with a dull knife to using ropes as a pulley to try and get the boulder to move, every possible option was explored.

You might know what happened next. Aron ran out of food and water and was completely exhausted. He knew he only had one option left. He endured the pain and risked his life to see his plan go through. He had something to live for, he had hopes and dreams and was not going to let this boulder get in the way of his life.

Aron walked out of that cave with one arm and attempted the 8 mile trek back to his car, a journey that would likely kill 98% of people. He was luckily saved a few miles out by some other climbers. He survived a treacherous battle of life and death.

The point of this story...

Keep your eyes on the prize and know that failure will creep into your life. Things will hold you back whether it’s friends, motivation, boulders or even Facebook changes. There is always something that will be pulling you in the wrong direction or not let you move ahead, maybe its finances or lack of free time.

Try to accept that failure will happen and keep working on finding something that works for you. Whether it’s a new lead generation technique or starting a whole new business. There is always a new option that needs to be explored.

When you do not know what options work you need to try absolutely everything else. Not everything is going to work for you but in order to discover what does work you need to discover what doesn’t.

Try not to see failure as a step back. Look at it as a leap forward. You have eliminated an option that doesn’t work and now you will not waste time on it again. It is time to move on to something new and learn from past mistakes. It will only make you a more knowledgeable person in the end. The more you try the closer you will be to finding the method that had only 1% chance of working and you will end up in successville.

It’s a matter of changing your life and making it better. It’s a matter of achieving your dreams. What is stopping you and how will you be able to overcome it?

I’m not telling you to cut your arm off. If that’s what you got from this post I apologize for not making it clearer. I know this was an extreme example of relating a life or death situation to internet marketing  but I hope I got the importance of how to overcome your fear of failure into your heads.

The New Facebook Profile: Important Marketing Updates Enclosed!

We all knew it was coming. Facebook is always changing but all hope is not lost. As marketers we need to adapt to change and this is just another challenge to overcome.
Facebook will automatically be switching your profile over to the new one in the next few days.

If you want to change it right away you can go to facebook.com/about/profile and check out the video.

Here are some important marketing updates for the new Facebook profile:

The first thing that someone is going to see when they go to your profile is your pictures on the top row.  Make sure that they are edited and they represent your lifestyle. You can hide the photos you dislike by clicking on the 'x' in the top right corner.

Try not to have a picture of you holding a beer or something too goofy. You still need to establish yourself as a leader and represent yourself in your pictures.

If you would like to “unhide” the pictures you have hidden by mistake go to Edit Profile à Edit profile picture and you will see the option to unhide your photos.

In the basic information section nothing has really changed so just make sure the information is up to date.

Featured People:

You can write your relationships and specific friends you want to feature in your profile. They will show up under your profile picture.  If you have a great networking relationship with a few people then they would be great to set as featured friends.

Education and Work:

Make sure you have a Facebook page! Click Here to learn how you can create a Facebook page

This section shows up at the very top of your profile page so it is very important!

Change your employer to your Facebook page. If the business name and description drives curiosity to others then you will get more people going to your page and probably a few more fans.

Put your website in the description because these links will be clickable and show up at the top of the of your info page.

Try to make your business description unique because it could be the only chance to get someone interested in your business. (The rest of your links show up at the very bottom of your info page and some people will not scroll that far down for more info)

The Arts and Entertainment Section:

I decided not to select my favourite movies, music, TV shows and games in because I found it cluttered the look of my info page. It looks a little more professional just to have a few books show up then a page with 22 random pictures of girly movies and TV shows.

I decided to add entrepreneurial and well known books to establish a better idea of what I'm about.

For those of you who have downloaded my Facebook eBooks I will be updating them in the future to reflect the new Facebook profile and the content that is now outdated.

When changes like this happen, every business is in the same boat. Those who do not fear and adapt to change quickly are the ones who will excel.

Looking forward to checking out your new Facebook profiles!

Thanks for reading :)

Home Business Success Tip: Mindset

Here is another home business success tip. Having a 98% mindset is key if you are looking to be successful with an online business.  You have all heard the stat that 98% of people who start online businesses fail. This stat is completely true but also biased.

Many people that sign up for online businesses are not serious in the first place. They plan on doing an online business part time or for 1 hour on the weekends just to see if anything happens or “luck comes their way.” If you want to make it big with an online business, doing something “just for fun” or “just to try it out” is not going to cut it.

You need to be fully committed to work hard and try your best. You need to not be afraid of failing. You need to kick yourself in the butt to stay motivated and do whatever it takes for you to reach your income goal.  You need to be a 2% successful inspiring leader.

If you're treating your business like a hobby, you are not going to get very far. Something inspirational doesn't just “click.” You need to make it “click” and push yourself to achieve your goals daily. The more challenges you overcome, the more confident you will be and then you will start seeing much better results.

Maybe this is your 1st online business or your 5th. If you are able to sell anything to anyone in the world, all you need to do is to stay motivated, stay plugged in and surround yourself with a great team. Surround yourself with others who will support you and help you stay motivated.

Join something with a great online community full of support and training and see yourself grow along with your bank account. I hope you enjoyed that short home business success tip about mindset. Go get that 98% mindset, stay plugged in and go out and be the best version of yourself. Click Here
