The New Facebook Profile Exposed

Looks like facebook is changing again! No surprise there, the “improvements” will never stop.

So let’s talk about the new facebook profile. It’s been up for about a week now and I’ve considered switching because I like using the latest trends. Before I make a decision I want to find out the benefits of the new facebook profile.

From a marketing perspective I love how currently I am able to have my websites on my profile page. I am also able to add a personal message to everyone and add in my website under my profile picture. Both the website and “empty profile box” seem to disappear in the new facebook profile leaving you no room to market your business on your main page.

Although you can easily switch your main page to your information tab with the new and old facebook settings, I like having the wall as the first thing someone sees when they look at my profile or search for my name. It’s great to show that you are active with your wall, status and friends.

The new facebook profile benefits:

Ok I will give it some credit; the first thing someone sees at the top is a little bio about you. You could include a link about your business here but it’s not that obvious that it’s a link because the title does not look like a website and you might be missing out on clicks you could have had.

If you are searching for new friends for your business, it is easy to see if they are qualified by looking right at their bio on top of their profile page. The bio tells you about work, school, location and birthday.

The photos up top are also pretty neat although I’m not sure you can customize which ones can be seen and in which order. They might show up based on the pictures you last updated and it wouldn’t be very good to have your grandma or a silly picture representing you and your business.

On the left under your profile picture, you have the chance to choose which pictures of friends or group members you would like to have up there. If you have a fan page, it would be great to select all of your fans and have them displayed in that section.

Whether we choose to update our profiles now, never, or later they will probably be gradually updated with or without our say in the next year. Either way, as marketers we will find a way to let our businesses be seen and known!

What do you think about the new facebook profile? Do you think it will  benefit you or your business?
